Why Your Google Ads Are Getting Clicks But No Conversions

Nithinkrishna VS ·Jul 18, 2026 ·⏱ 3 min read

Clicks without conversions is one of the most frustrating outcomes in paid advertising. Your ad is working. people are clicking. But nobody is enquiring, buying, or doing whatever it is you wanted them to do.

The problem is almost never the ad itself. It is almost always what happens after the click.

The Most Common Reasons for Zero Conversions

The landing page does not match the ad. If your ad promises a free consultation for SEO services and your landing page is your homepage with a general overview of everything you do, the visitor is confused and leaves. The landing page needs to deliver exactly what the ad promised, immediately and clearly.

The page is slow to load. Every second of load time costs conversions. On mobile, a page that takes more than three seconds to load loses a significant percentage of visitors before they even see the content. Check your page speed with Google PageSpeed Insights and fix anything that is slowing it down.

There is no clear call to action. Visitors should not have to figure out what to do next. One prominent, specific call to action. book a call, get a quote, download the guide. tells them exactly what the next step is. Multiple competing calls to action dilute attention and reduce conversions.

You Are Targeting the Wrong Keywords

Some keywords attract people who are researching rather than buying. “What is SEO” attracts someone who wants information. “SEO consultant Bangalore” attracts someone who wants to hire someone. If your ads are showing for informational queries, you will get clicks from people who were never going to become customers.

Review your search terms report in Google Ads. This shows you the actual searches that triggered your ads. Look for patterns: are there types of searches that get clicks but no conversions? Add those terms as negative keywords to stop your ads from showing for them.

Your Offer Is Not Compelling Enough

Even with the right audience on the right page, if your offer does not give them a strong reason to act now, they will leave and think about it. And when they think about it later, they will not come back.

What makes someone choose you over the other results they saw? If you cannot answer that clearly, neither can your landing page visitor. A specific, believable reason to act. a limited availability, a risk-reducing guarantee, a specific outcome you deliver. can significantly improve conversion rates.

You Have Not Waited Long Enough

If your campaign is a week old and has had 50 clicks, you do not have enough data to draw conclusions. Conversion rates in most industries are between one and five percent, which means you might need 100 to 200 clicks before you see even a handful of conversions.

Give a new campaign at least 30 days and a meaningful number of clicks before deciding it is not working. Optimise based on data, not impatience.
